トビタテ！留学JAPANの奨学金を利用して、マオリ語で会話できるAI chatbotの作成を目標として、約3週間ニュージーランドに行きました！

英語の語学学校に通いながら、マオリ語の調査を進めました。実際にマオリ語を話す人にインタビューを行い、スラングや日常的な表現について学ぶことができました。週末にはTe Puiaという観光地で、マオリ族の伝統であるハカや絶滅危惧種のキーウィを見るなど、とても楽しく過ごしました。日本の伝統を紹介するワークショップを開いた際には、主にホームステイ先の人に習字を体験していただき、「和」について伝えることができました。

異文化に身を置く中で、たくさんの発見をすることができ、とても刺激的な滞在になりました！

Hello! My name is Ryunosuke Maeda, a first-year high school student.

Through the Tobitate (Leap for Tomorrow)! Study Abroad Japan scholarship, I spent about three weeks in New Zealand with the goal of creating an AI chatbot that can communicate in the Māori language. While attending an English language school, I also conducted research on Māori. I had the opportunity to interview native speakers, which helped me learn everyday expressions and even some slang.

On weekends, I visited places such as Te Puia, where I experienced Māori traditions like the haka and saw the endangered kiwi bird,it was an amazing experience. I also hosted a small workshop to introduce Japanese culture, where I taught calligraphy to my host family and others. It was a wonderful chance to share the idea of “wa” (harmony) from Japanese tradition.

Being immersed in a different culture allowed me to discover so many new things, and the entire stay was both eye-opening and inspiring.
