Rich environments for experiential learning
HiGA is located on the island of Osakikamijima in the Seto Inland Sea, an area renowned for its outstanding beauty. On the island are citrus groves, woodlands, beaches and hills, providing an ideal context for cultivating understandings of sustainability. Local fishing, shipping and renewable energy industries are integrated into the local environment and present further learning opportunities. Less than 2 hours away is Hiroshima, the city of peace where students can learn so much of value.
Students will learn about the lasting value of peace by seeing the post war reconstruction of Hiroshima firsthand. Additionally, they will take part in many different initiatives, festivals, ceremonies and programs that emphasizes the importance of building a sustainable future. Students will be encouraged to also pursue their own projects to answer for themselves “What is peace?”
