With the start of the third semester, G10 students have begun taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). While building on the foundation of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) that they have been studying up until now. The IBDP is allowing the students to further develop their agency and critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning.

G10 Visual Art presented the results of their studies in the form of an exhibition ; displaying a variety of works created in class. Many of the works were unique and creative in accordance with their respective themes, and visitors gave positive feedback.

The president of the Hiroshima International Council for Health Care of the Radiation-exposed (HICARE), Mr. Kenji Kamiya, in collaboration Hiroshima University and Fukushima Medical University, visited Hiroshima Global Academy to give a lecture on “Radiation and Health” to HiGA’s grade 10 students. During the lecture, he talked about the health risks of radiation exposure, radiation-sensitive diseases, and introduced HICARE’s activities. The students actively listened to Mr. Kamiya’s presentation and engaged him in the Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

Mr. Shigeki Okubo, a well-known DJ on Hiroshima FM, gave a lecture on consumer awareness today. Citing the lowering of the age of adulthood to 18, Mr. Okubo explained the importance of acquiring correct knowledge as a consumer and of seeking advice when in trouble. After the lecture, he made a special appearance on the school’s lunchtime program and was asked a variety of questions by the students, such as “What inspired you to become a radio DJ?”. We will continue to ask him for his assistance in radio appearances for our students in the future.

Consul General Nikhilesh Giri and his secretary of the Consulate General of India, Osaka-Kobe visited HiGA. The Consulate General of India, Osaka-Kobe donated a painting and about 100 books to HiGA. During the visit, they participated in a presentation ceremony and discussions with our students. We look forward to having further exchange activities with India in the future.

A team of six students from our school won first place at the Hiroshima Science Olympiad, a high school students’ competition for knowledge and thinking skills in science and mathematics, held in November! As a result, the team will represent Hiroshima Prefecture in the “Koshien of Science National Competition” in Ibaraki Prefecture in March. We are looking forward to preparing for the national competition!

The Chair of Hawaii State Board of Education and some educators visited HiGA. Our students took the lead in a campus tour and discussed possible future collaborations. We look forward to collaborating with students in Hawaii in near future.

Esta muy rico!!!In the home economics class for gread 10 students, we have been working on a project to create dishes that originate from the hometowns of our international students. This time, as the second project following the Aussie meat pie, we made “chilaquiles,” a local Mexican dish. Under the supervision of a foreign student from Mexico, corn tortillas were deep-fried and tossed in a tomato-based sauce for a truly authentic taste! Esta muy rico!!!

Hiroshima Global Academy(HiGA)’s students are working with video production professionals on a project to produce a promotional movie for HiGA. The students learned interviewing tips and how to use video equipment, and spent three days shooting a variety of videos. The movie is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022. Stay tuned!
