We are back in Japan, Haneda airport! We stayed in Washington D.C, United States for total of 7 days. We enjoyed learning a lot about the American culture and high school life. Today was the last day to stay in the U.S. In the morning. We visited Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The area were divided by the sections such as dinosaur or animals of the ocean, and they introduced history of animals by using stuffing etc. They were very interesting because we saw some models of animals that have already died out and we can’t see them anymore. After that, we ate the last meal in the U.S. at the Silver Diner, which was the first restaurant we went when we arrived in the U.S.. During this trip, we went to many restaurants from different countries, and experienced different cultures.

Today, at the Embassy of Japan, we made a presentation about the real life in D.C. and future action plans. In the afternoon, after visiting the U.S. Capitol, we had dinner with Hayfield secondary School students and enjoyed the sports day. There are many Japanese students, who feel lonely after saying goodbye to them, but we will keep a good relationship with them from now on!

We did a lot today, so the post will be in two parts! In the morning, we had a workshop at the hotel’s meeting room. We shared what we learned through KAKEHASHI Project and thought about our action plan after returning to Japan. We will do a presentation on our action plan tomorrow at the Japanese embassy and Hayfield Secondary School. After returning to Japan, we will continue to post on SNS and work hard to achieve the action plan. In the afternoon, we had lunch with Globalize DC students and then went to church. Today, we went to NATIONAL HARBOR and National Air and Space Museum with Hayfield secondary school students. Through the exchanges, we could learn and experience a lot of things. We were happy that we could deepen our friendship more.

On the third day, we visited Hayfield High School! From the morning, we took classes together and made a presentation about Japan to deepen our friendship. We introduced Japanese culture by doing quizs, and performing dances and other demonstrations. It was great to see them learning Japanese and taking an interest in Japanese culture!

n the morning of the second day, we visited the National Japanese American Museum, where we could learn about the history of Japanese Americans. We listened to a third-generation Japanese American and learned for the first time about the hardships and thoughts of Japanese Americans during the Pacific War. After eating chili dogs for lunch, we visited a company that is also based in Washington, D.C. We could gain a better understanding of the many factors involved in business and the relationship between government and business that is unique to Washington, D.C. Also, we can gain new perspectives by looking at Japanese Americans, African Americans we had never paid attention

The first day, we were met at Washington Dulles Airport by our coordinators in the US. Afterwards, we had a bacon lettuce tomato sandwich, a classic American meal, for lunch. After that, we visited the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument on the National Mall. After arriving at the hotel, we had an orientation to confirm the aim of the project and having an ice breaker to get to know each other.

G10 students from Hiroshima Global Academy, will participate in the Kakehashi Project promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Our students will visit Washington D.C. in the United States from February 1 to 8, 2023. They will be posting information about the project, our activities, and Japanese culture on our SNS account @kakehashi_higa.

With the start of the third semester, G10 students have begun taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). While building on the foundation of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) that they have been studying up until now. The IBDP is allowing the students to further develop their agency and critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning.
