On Saturday 26th of October, we held an exchange meeting with international students from Eikei University at our school. After a presentation by the international students of Eikei University on their studies at the university and their visions for the future, a round-table discussion was held with HiGA students. It was a good opportunity for our students to think about their future and enhance their current studies.

Reina Akiyoshi, a G12 student, and Hanna Mochizuki, a G11 student, who were selected for the Hiroshima Prefecture Guanajuato Youth Exchange Program, participated in a post-dispatch report meeting held at the Hiroshima Prefectural Office. The two reported to Governor Yuzaki about what impressed them during their time there, and the governor commented, “I hope that this exchange will serve as a bridge between the young people who will lead the future of Hiroshima and Guanajuato.”

On Tuesday, June 4, eight officials from the Autonomous Regional Government of the Bangsamoro in the Philippines visited our school to discuss peace education as part of JICA’s training program for senior administrative officials following the decision to establish the Bangsamoro Autonomous Regional Government in 2025.  Seven first-year and second-year high school students from our school gave a presentation on peace education and exchanged opinions in groups. We hope that peace education will be promoted in the Bangsamoro region so that children in the Bangsamoro region can contribute to building a peaceful society.

On Saturday, April 6, we held an entrance ceremony for 40 junior high school students and 41 high school students. Although it had been raining heavily until a few days before, the day of the ceremony was blessed with fine weather, and the buds on the cherry blossoms trees were swelling even more. In his address, Principal Fukushima expressed his expectations for the new students to acquire the ability to cooperate with others and play an active role on the global stage, even in this complex world in which we live. On April 5 (Fri.), we held the arrival ceremony for the 2024 school year and the opening ceremony for the first semester. At the arrival ceremony, we welcomed 14 new teachers, marking a fresh start for HiGA’s 6th year. The opening ceremony also marked the return of the current students to HiGA after a three-week spring break, bringing the school back to life. In his opening remarks,  Principal Fukushima reminded the students of the first and second cohort, who have grown up through trial and error since the school’s opening, and encouraged them to be even more active in the future. On Tuesday, December 19th, we held the 2nd term closing ceremony. During the closing ceremony, Principal Fukushima reflected on the second semester and gave advice to the students, who are busy with their daily activities, on how to deal with “capacity overload(the state in which a load exceeds one’s capacity)” encouraging them to “Make an effort to gradually increase your capacity and control it well so that it does not become overcapacity.” He also concluded the second semester by telling them to say to their parents, “Thank you” from the bottom of their heart for their daily support, and to come back to school on the day they return to

As part of the Kakehashi Project (U.S.A.), an international exchange program promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, students from Hayfield Secondary School in the U.S.A., which our students visited in February this year, came to our school and enjoyed the one-day exchange program with our students in each grade. In the Japanese class for G10 (the 1st year high school) students, they chose their favorite words and made original uchiwa (Japanese fans) using calligraphy brushes.
